The Rio Grande at Questa depicts the mighty river flowing down the gorge some 850 feet below the rim. The sound of the rapids is faint but distinct as the wind moves erratically through the juniper and sage above. The distant clouds only hint at the cloudburst that soon covered the ground with a blanket of hail.
