JAKKI KOUFFMAN - CAREER SUMMARY


Truro artist Jakki Kouffman is originally from Brookline, Mass. She has painted in different locations around the US, Canada and Italy. Before moving to Cape Cod five years ago, she lived in Santa Fe, where she painted and taught for eighteen years. Prior to moving to the Southwest, she called Juneau, Alaska home for six years, during which time she lived for extended periods in British Columbia. Prior to moving out West, she lived in New York City, where she attended the Art Students League of New York for four years. She attained her BA, magna cum laude with Honors in Fine Art, from Brandeis University, which also awarded her a Sachar International Fellowship for one year of sculpture study in Pietrasanta, Italy.

 

In 2023, Kouffman was awarded four prizes at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable, MA: First Place in Coast to Coast Show, Best in Show at the Red show and Second Prize in both the Anything Goes and Natural Beauty shows. In 2023 she was also awarded First Place (Pastel) in the All Cape Cod Show at the Creative Arts Center (CAC) in Chatham; in 2022, Kouffman won First Place (oil/acrylic) at the All Cape Cod Show. In 2021, Kouffman was awarded Best in Show at the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod Annual Members Show and Honorable Mention at the Connections to Your World Show at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable, MA.  In 2020, she won First Place (Large) at the All Cape Cod Art Show in Chatham. In 2019, she won two prizes at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable, Mass: Best in Show at the Interpretations Show and First Prize in Pastel at the My Happy Place Show.

 

In 2018, she won Best in Show at the Acrylic Painters USA Annual Juried Show in Florida. In 2017 she was awarded First Place at the On Your Mark show at the Dunedin (Florida) Fine Arts Center. Also that year, Kouffman won First Place (Oil/Acrylic) at the MasterWorks of New Mexico exhibition in Albuquerque. She has also won prizes at the Hubbard Museum of the American West, the Rio Grande Art Association Encantada Show, the Pastel Society of New Mexico National Show and the Anchorage Museum. In addition, Kouffman was awarded three prizes at the Pastel Society of America Annual Juried Show in New York City, where she was elected a Master Pastellist

Kouffman is a Signature Member of Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, and longtime past member at Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and the Pastel Society of New Mexico. She is also a Juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable, MA. Kouffman has shown her work in more than two hundred juried and invitational shows around the country. She has presented twelve solo shows, including those at the Las Cruces (NM) Museum of Art, the Wichita Art Center, the Hutchinson (KS) Art Center, the Juneau Arts Council Gallery and the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. 

In 2009, two of her paintings were installed at public facilities in Santa Fe and Las Vegas, New Mexico through the Acclaimed Artist Series of the New Mexico Art in Public Places (AIPP) program. In 2008, one of her paintings was installed at the Mesilla Community Center through AIPP. 

Kouffman's artwork appears in several books, including Acrylic Innovation: Styles & Techniques by 64 Visionary Artists, published by North Light Books. Her work also appears in The Artist and the American Landscape by John Driscoll and Arnold Skolnick, Painting Alaska by Kes Woodward, and Messages from Alaska, published by the M.J. Murdock Foundation. Kouffman's work has been covered in the Santa Fe New Mexican, Pasatiempo, Cowboys & Indians, Albuquerque Journal Arts, Albuquerque Journal, Santa Fe Reporter and many other publications. 


Kouffman's paintings hang in more than 25 states around the country. She has taught painting workshops in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and the Yukon. She also taught acrylic and pastel classes at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Connecticut for 11 years and at Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education for 14 years. In 2019, 2021and 2022 Kouffman taught workshops at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill and in 2022 and 2023 at the Provincetown Art Museum School
